INTRODUCTION

 

Sohan Lal DAV College of Education (IASE), Ambala City is a premier institute of education catering to the needs of Northern India in Teacher Education. This esteemed institution was established at Lahore in 1939 and was rehabilitated at Ambala after independence and later handed over to the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi. Since then this institution has carved a niche in the field of teacher education by producing teachers of great repute. The college strives to maintain the ideals of its founder Rai Bahadur Sohan Lal and to articulate the ancient Vedic Wisdom in the modern context.

Lala Bhagwan Das was the first Principal of the college at Ambala who was succeeded by Dr. R. L. Ahuja (1957-64), Shri A.R. Sharma (1964-74), Dr. V.B. Taneja (1975-77), Dr. V.K. Kohli (1977-91) and Dr. D.P. Asija (1991-2007). Dr. Vivek Kohli is admirably heading the institution since January 1, 2008.

It is now a Post-Graduate College of Education, having B.Ed. & M.Ed Courses, affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. The college has the credit of being approved and recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament. It also enjoys the proud privilege of being awarded A+ Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 93% marks. The college has received an ISO 9001-2000 certification. Beside this, the college now enjoys the status of an Institute of Advanced Study in Education (IASE) upgraded by Ministery of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Recently the UGC has also selected this college for various programmes under Innovative scheme. The UGC has recently established a ’Centre for Sri Aurobindo Studies’ in this college. The college successfully competed in the nation wide contest for the best integration of Technology in Education for the year 2005 and was adjudged as National Winner for which His Excellency General (Retd.) SF Rodrigus PVSM, VSM Governor of Punjab & Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh graciously awarded the prize and presented the citation.

The college aims to attain complete autonomy in its structure and functioning with the formation of Deemed University of Pedagogical Sciences in the near future.

   
 

SITUATION OF THE COLLEGE

 

The college is situated in the heart of the city. It is near Arya School Chowk. From Ambala Cantt, local bus service/auto-rickshaws are available for Arya School Chowk/Jagadhri Gate.

ADMISSION

1. Admission to B.Ed course (250 seats) will be done as per norms.
2. Admission to M.Ed course (25 seats) will be done on merit.

Eligibility : B.Ed or any other recognized equivalent degree with atleast 45% marks in aggregate. Merit List for admission to M.Ed course will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the B.Ed course + weightage.

Note :
Reservation of seats for both the above courses will be as per Haryana Govt. policy.

   
 

WEIGHTAGE FOR THE PURPOSE OF MERIT

  The weightage of marks for the purpose of merit is mentioned below
 
     
(a) Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination
from universities in Haryana State.
5 marks
     
(b) Recipients of National Talent Award from the NCERT 5 marks
     
(c) Candidates having consistently good academic record
i.e. throughout First Class (TFC) from First Public
Examination to qualifying exam
5 marks
     
(d) N.C.C. Cadets who have passed the ‘C” or G-II” Certificate 5 marks
   
 

Students who have been recommended or commended (i.e. have obtained 1st or 2nd position) at the Inter-Zonal or Inter-University or Inter-State Level Youth Festival(s) or competition(s) organized by State govt./ University either individually or as members of a team.

Sportsmen who have won 1st or 2nd or 3rd position at the University/State Level Tournaments organized by the State Govt./ Haryana Olympic Association/University in individual events or team games or have actually participated in an Inter-University or National Level competition. Duly recognized by Association of India Universities/concerned National Federation/India Olympic Association in the games in which Inter-University Tournaments are organized by Association of Indian Universities.

Holder of Certificate of Merit for N.S.S. awarded by the University.

Criteria for award of University N.S.S. Merit Certificate is as under:-

  1. N.S.S Volunteer who has completed 240 hours of regular activities in the period of two years and attended two annual special Camps of at least 10 days duration and

  2. One who has donated blood at least twice
or


has made at least five illiterates literate. This shall have to be certified by the Principal alongwith the names and addresses of the such literates.

has shown an exemplary act of courage or bravery by saving life in situations like drowning, fire, natural calamities or man made calamities and awarded at the National Level.

In case of NSS Volunteers from other Universities located outside Haryana, one has to become eligible by way of becoming at par with the conditions required under Sr. No. 1 and 2 of the above criteria laid down for University Merit Certificate.

For the students instructors of Colleges maintained/recognized by the Kurukshetra University for running Adult Education Centre/engaged under the MPEL.

(The above weightage under Adult Education Scheme will be given on the basis of the Certificates issued jointly by the Principal of the college affiliated/maintained by Kurukshetra University and the Hony. Director, CACEE, K.U.K.)

Provided that :

  • The weightage for the purpose of merit under Clause (d) be given only if the candidate has obtained required certificates/distinction after 10+2 classes i.e. during college/university level courses.

  • The total weightage for the purpose of merit shall not exceed 10 marks.

  • Weightage for sports will be given only in respect of tournaments in the following games/events arranged by the University/Inter-University Sports Board or by a State/National Organization recognized by the Indian Olympic Association. No other game or event which is not recognized by the Association of Indian Universities shall be considered.
   
 

GAMES FOR BOYS AND GIRLS

  Athletics including Cross-Country: Badminton; Basket-ball; Cricket: Cycling; Gymnastics; Hockey; Kho-Kho; Shooting; Swimming including Water-Polo and Diving; Table Tennis, Volley-ball; Hand-ball; Kabaddi of National Style; Foot-ball; Chess; Boxing; Judo; Weight-Lifting; Yoga; Best-Physique; Wrestling and Power Lifting.
   
 

GENERAL

 

(1) There shall be no rounding-of percentage of marks from 0.5% and above to next number for        determining the eligibility for admission.

(2) In case two or more candidates in the merit list have equal percentage of marks, the        candidates senior in age will be considered first.

(3) All admission applications should accompany with all requisite documents/certificate for       eligibility, weightages, reservation and other concession, failing which such application for        admission will not be considered and finally rejected.

   
 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

 
  1. The application for admission to B.Ed or M.Ed class should be made on the prescribed form attached at the end of this prospectus.

  2. No reason may be assigned for not selecting a candidate for admission.

  3. Selected candidates of other universities are to submit their inter-university migration certificate before the date prescribed by the university. In the absence of migration certificate, admission will be provisional and at the risk and responsibility of the candidate. 

  4. The conditions stated in the prospectus may be modified without notice under instruction from NCTE, K.U.K, Haryana Govt. and or any other competent authority.
   
 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES

 
  1. Please read the prospectus carefully before filling up the Admission Form.

  2. The admission form of candidates who are seeking admission to M.Ed on the basis of having passed their qualifying examination from the university other than Kurukshetra University will be considered only if the qualifying examination, passed by them, is duly recognized by Kurukshetra University.

  3. Application for the Admission on the prescribed form is to be submitted in the office of Principal, Sohan Lal DAV College of Education (IASE) Ambala City duly complete with attested copies of all the requisite documents such as:-

    1. Certificates showing marks obtained and maximum marks of all the public examinations passed.

    2. Character Certificate from the Head of the institution last attended.

    3. The candidates who have gaps in their academic career must furnish a gap certificate stating reasons for gap(s) in the form of an affidavit and should also furnish separately the character certificate of the gap period duly signed by a First Class Magistrate.

The gap period will be counted from the matriculation examination onwards and/till the date of submission of the admission form for the B.Ed/M.Ed. course.

    1. No objection certificate from the employer in case of working teacher/employed candidate.

    2. Matriculation or equivalent examination certificate in support of date of birth.

    3. Certificate on the prescribed form in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Socially Backward Classes/O.B.C.

    4. Certificate for claiming admission against seats reserved for physically handicapped persons/Ex-Servicemen & their wards/dependents of freedom fighters.

    5. College receipt/Demand Draft of Rs. 300/- in favour of Principal, Sohan Lal DAV College of Education, Ambala City payable at Ambala City on account of counselling fee in case of M.Ed course.

  1. In case a candidate claims admission against reserved seats but does not attach the required certificate in support of his/her claim with the admission form, his/her admission will be considered against seats of general category.

  2. In case, a candidate claims weightage on any ground for the purpose of merit but does not attach the required certificate of his/her claim with the admission form, he/she will not be given weightage for that purpose.

  3. The candidates who do not fulfill the minimum eligibility conditions for admission or have been placed under compartment in the qualifying examination, are not eligible.

  4. No candidate shall join any other course of study or appear in any other examination conducted by a University or a Public Body while studying in B.Ed/M.Ed.

  5. No one who is in employment (whole-time, part –time or Honorary service) shall be allowed to join/continue B.Ed/M.Ed. course without taking leave from his/her institution/office, etc. from the date of commencement of the academic session to the conclusion of his/her B.Ed/M.Ed examination including Project work / Field-work / Practical Examination / Dissertation etc.

  6. If the last date fixed for the receipt of Admission Form falls on a holiday or that day is declared a holiday by the University, the next working day will be considered as the last date for the purpose.

  7. No additional documents will be accepted after the counselling of the category to which the candidate belongs.

  8. No benefit of declaration of late result/re-evaluation result after the date and time stipulated by the admission committee of the college, will be given.

  9. The candidates must mention their complete permanent and correspondence addresses along with PIN CODE and also cell phone or phone with STD code in the admission form.
The candidate must produce the original documents at the time of counselling. Original documents will have to be produced again by the selected candidates in the office of the college for verification before they are allowed to deposit their fees and the original
